Trailer Lessons

Do you need a licence to tow a trailer, caravan or horse box?

Trailer, Horsebox and Caravan Lessons

This course is particularly relevant for those wishing to tow a horsebox or caravan and those involved in construction.

Car / Jeep and Trailer (Category B+E) training is available as a three day course, with an average training time of some six to eight hours, depending upon driving experience.

A DVA examiner will conduct the test on the final day at one of the 3 main testing centres:

  • Newbuildings (L’Derry)

In order to gain this licence, those who took their car test on or after 1 January 1997, have to pass a practical test in this category. However no theory test is required.

Holding a Category B+E licence allows a vehicle of up to 3,500kgs MAM to be combined with a trailer up to 3,500kgs MAM and the total weight must not be more than 7,000kgs MAM.
